Last spring, London-based artist Gill Button found herself in the studio hand-painting 1,200 invitations for Dries Van Noten's fall/winter 2016 show. Her work for the Belgian designer soon lived large in the form of huge window displays before being etched in Dries Van Noten's two new books that illustrate the silhouettes, details and fabrics of the current collection.
The Kingston University graduate of arts caught the eye of Dries Van Noten, who found her work through the artist's Instagram account. Now "Insta-famous", she's known for her oil and ink portraits and has been commissioned by the likes of Harper's Bazaar, Glamour and Women's Wear Daily. Her lively portraits showcase artistic inspirations from makeup artist Pat McGrath as well as photographers Irvin Penn and Diane Arbus. She's also taken a liking to painting fashion luminaries — from designers such as Alexander Wang and Hedi Slimane to fashion editors Diana Vreeland and Emmanuelle Alt.
