If there's one night when a Hollywood actress has to look her best, it's the Oscars. There's tremendous pressure to get your look right — especially if you're a nominee who has a chance to clamber onstage to receive that coveted golden statuette. Carol actresses and nominees Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett both stood out for their icy, ethereal looks. Mara was so perfectly put-together she looked almost statue-like. We loved her on fleek brows and Star Wars-inspired triple buns (Rey wore a similar look in the movie). Mara's hair and makeup was almost theatrical and certainly show stopping. Blanchett meanwhile, who we had just interviewed for a pre-Oscar hangout simply glowed, letting her famously lit-from-within complexion contrast against the pale, seafoam blue of her Armani Privé gown.
Other standouts for us was nominee Rachel McAdams, who sported a sleek modern look, with a simple bun and smoky, grey liner that matched her dress. Also not afraid to match makeup to clothes? Olivia Munn who sported a brilliant, fluorescent orange lipstick, that paired perfectly with her tangerine Stella McCartney gown. The other Olivia — Olivia Wilde that is — did boho perfection the Oscar-appropriate way, with a romantic, braided updo that offset her plunging neckline. And finally, Charlize Theron was intimidatingly glamorous in her red Dior gown, signature bronze, smoky eyes and the coolest short hairdo we've seen yet — leaving all the long-haired ladies who wore their tresses predictably loose and wavy, in her dust.
