When the models stepped out at Burberry's FW16 show with fresh and strikingly modern glitter on their faces, a revolution was born. Glitter was no longer about being tacky and shiny like a disco ball... it was subtle yet subversive. Edgy yet elegant. And everyone wanted the look. Our favourite new way to wear glitter is as an accent on the face. Check out Suki Waterhouse's glitter 'tears' at the premiere of Pride and Prejudice with Zombies and the way Edie Campbell wears it around the lower eyeline (below) at the Burberry show. Glitter is no longer restricted to the eyes, lips and nails.
Just in time for the holiday season, Burberry Beauty releases its festive colours and, yes glitter and shine feature prominently. The collection includes loose gold as well as holographic, black-flecked dust that can be 'stuck' onto the face by using the brand's Fresh Glow Highlighting Luminous Pen as a base first. There's also the Gold Touch in Gold Shimmer — great for adding small touches of luminosity on your cheek- and browbones. If you want to try shine without being too OTT, start smaller with the glitter-flecked nail polish and the eyeshadow palette that comes in flattering golden hues. But we would highly recommend taking the plunge and trying actual glitter flecks on your face to bring your makeup look back to the future.
