Five game-changing short hairstyles
These ladies proved that damsels can sport cropped tops. Short, sassy, daring and definitive... these women didn't follow trends, they blazed the trail. And years later, we're still inspired by these short dos.
Oh Audrey! We can only hope to imitate your stylish life. From the Givenchy couture you wore in your films, to your perfect all-black ensemble that defied trends. And that chic, French, almost couture cut with the wavy bangs you sported in Sabrina. Sublime.
In the 90s we all wanted to be Winona Ryder the original manic pixie dream girl. While she had quite a few enviable pixie cuts in that decade, it was this devil-may-care, undone shag that she sported in the movie Reality Bites that started the trend for Generation X.
Is there anyone cooler than the Blondie frontwoman? We think not. Debbie Harry rocked out with a choppy, platinum shag in the late 1970s and had hair that was simultaneously punk and pretty. With cut glass cheekbones and an intimidating, almost icy beauty, Harry paved the way for rock stars like Gwen Stefani.
She made the cut onscreen and off for Roman Polanski's horror classic Rosemary's Baby in 1967 and transformed from wan woman to strong survivor. Her onscreen husband (and reportedly her off-screen husband Frank Sinatra as well) may have hated her Vidal Sassoon cut, but it defined style for a whole generation.
In a sea of long-haired starlets Berry stood out with her textured crop. Her short hair played up her symmetrical beauty and gorgeous cheekbones. Has short hair ever looked any more perfectly-styled?
