Victoria Beckham announces a makeup partnership with Estée Lauder
Victoria Beckham knows makeup. Even from her days as Spice Girl, the former singer and current design darling, had a distinct look — smoky eyes and nude lips — and stuck to it. For her own Victoria Beckham line, the designer usually prefers her models to sport clean, minimalist makeup and pared-down hair, keeping the focus strictly on her sleek designs. Most impressive is how Beckham has parlayed her pop singer past into a serious career as a designer, gaining accolades from top magazine Vogue as well as a Best Womenswear Designer nod from the British Fashion Awards in 2015.
Following a collaboration with NailsInc for two shades of nail polish last year, Beckham is set to extend her empire to makeup with a limited-edition collection with makeup giant Estée Lauder. Set to launch in September 2016, no details on what exactly will be on offer has been released. But we're expecting at least eye shadows, liner and possibly a nude lipstick or two What we do know, it will be at select retailers as well as esteelauder.com and victoriabeckham.com — the cross availability introducing each brand to the current customers of the other and similar to the marketing strategy of Beyoncé's Ivy Park athleisure line.
Beckham herself was thrilled about the announcement, posting to her 9.8 million Twitter followers. In her press announcement Beckham said, "I am thrilled to be launching this limited edition makeup collection with Estée Lauder. The whole process has been both inspiring and eye-opening — from going back and revisiting the Estée Lauder archives, through to working on the product with the Estée team, this feels like the perfect makeup partnership for me and my brand. I had long admired Estée Lauder the woman, and the powerful brand that she created, so I am excited to offer both of our customers this makeup range and play a small part in her vision for women." It seems the fit is ideal on both sides as the brand has pointed to her entrepreneurship, passion for beauty and acute understanding of what women want as reasons for partnering with Beckham.
