Under the Tuscan sun: Bottega Verde brings Italian beauty to Singapore
Bottega Verde was a small herbalist shop founded in 1972 in a small Tuscan town called Pienza. Ahead of the trend for natural, handcrafted beauty products, the brand was artisanal before it became a buzzword. 40 years later, Bottega Verde is 100 per cent owned and operated by the Lavino family. They also happen to own the gorgeous Palazzo Massaini in Siena (above) which is not only breathtakingly stunning, but inspires the ingredients chosen for their products.
Today the brand has a staggering number of products from anti-ageing skincare to hand creams to hair dye — a large variety of which is on offer in their first Singapore store. One star range of the brand is the Goji Perfect line that uses a powerful combination of hyaluronic acid, pro-retinol and goji extract in its formulations to stop Father Time in his tracks. Expect a complete range that includes a Instant Action Unifying Face Primer, a day and night cream and a treatment for dark circles and puffy eyes.
The Red Grape range meanwhile proves that being aged for a bottle of top notch vino is not necessarily the best use for this antioxidant-rich fruit. Besides anti-ageing skincare, red grape is also used in a range of bodycare products including a rich and luxurious body cream and gentle yet effective exfoliator.
Perhaps the niftiest product you can buy in the store though is a tailor-made, anti-ageing cream. Dubbed La Mia Crema or 'My Cream' in English, your skin's hydration and surface lipid levels are measured so that you can get a cream that's just right for your skin. Choose from two fragrances — a delicate green scent or a spicy and citrusy one — and all your information is sent back to the headquarters in Tuscany so it can be formulated there. The cutest bit? You can name your personalised anti-ageing concotion — we went with Renée's Magic Cream — that will be delivered two to three weeks later for in-store collection. Although prices were not confirmed yet, the cream will likely retain for under $100. Affordable skincare with a touch of luxury... sign us up.
