Rising star Lily James has been handpicked by Burberry's Christopher Bailey as the new face of the My Burberry scent franchise, joining the ranks of the current faces Cara Delevingne and Kate Moss. And how does James, who first hit our television screens as Rose Aldridge in season three of Downton Abbey feel about her new role? "I am thrilled to be officially joining the Burberry family. I am so proud to be British, so it really means a lot. Shooting my first campaign was so special — I don't want to give away too much but I had a lot of fun showing a different side of myself." The campaign was shot by legendary lensman Mario Testino and will officially be launched in August.
It seems that James has been on Bailey's radar for quite some time. "I'm so delighted to have worked with the very lovely and clever Lily James on our new My Burberry campaign. I have admired her work for quite some time, and was bowled over by her wonderful charm and her warmth when we met, so it was a treat to have had the opportunity to collaborate on this shoot together." Besides the classic My Burberry Eau de Toilette and Eau de Parfum, a new scent, My Burberry Black will be released worldwide in August — it is currently available only in Harrods.
The fragrance, like the other two in the collection — was co-created by Bailey and master perfumer Francis Kurkdjian, but will evoke a garden at dusk. Expect a seductive and heady brew — that fuses jasmine flower, peach nectar, vanilla and candied rose — housed in an amber-coloured glass flaçon.
