Ancient Egypt is full of mystery and mythology, so it's no wonder that shoe designer Christian Louboutin is a lover of both the country and its culture. He owns both a house in Luxor and a classical, Egyptian sailboat on the Nile.
The brand's latest, limited-edition nail polish collection Scarabée was named after the scarab beetle — which held religious symbolism for the ancient pharoahs. These beetles come in beautiful, iridescent hues that change colour according to the light and interestingly enough make the most stunning nail polish shades. Says Louboutin, "They can look beautiful and reflective under the bright sun, but also look like a precious jewel at night."
It's easy to see the link between the three lacquers and their namesake beetle. Scarabée I is a soft metallic flecked with rose and gold, Scarabée II is a a deep blue with flashes of purple, emerald and gold and Scarabée III is a bronze with blue and green highlights. Each bottle of this posh polish also comes with the brand's signature, needle-like cap — inspired by a spike heel — that adds to its ultra-luxurious feel. We can't wait to paint these colours on our toenails for the ultimate peekaboo effect and feel like Cleopatra — even if it's just for a day.
The Scarabée collection is available in Christian Louboutin boutiques.
