Clé de Peau Beauté #JourneyToRadiance: Yvette King
Despite her busy lifestyle and varied schedule, E! News Asia host Yvette King is always on top of things. Says King, "A morning coffee is my only daily routine." But between juggling her Brunch with Buro column for Buro 24/7 Singapore, taking gorgeous snaps for her Instagram account and schmoozing at all the major fashion events in town, King is one busy woman. She says her typical day is all over the place, but can start with "answering emails in her pyjamas and end up with filming segments for her show." When it comes to her beauty routine, King looks for an effective, but minimalist routine. "The modern woman is busy enough, so I try to minimise the steps in my beauty regimen." However constantly being in front of the camera also means having to use a lot of makeup on a daily basis. She says, "The nature of my job means having to wear heavy makeup every day, so having fresh, supple, clean and hydrated skin is high on my priority list. I do have some holy grail products but I like to mix things up a bit as well — I'm open to trying new things!"
King tried out the Clé de Peau Beauté Basic skincare range and the brand's luxury La Crème for over a month and soon became obsessed with the cult cream that played a big part in her #JourneyToRadiance. "I am in love with La Crème. It's hydrating yet not suffocating for the skin. I wake up in the morning and my skin is dewy. The texture is not too thick, unlike other night creams — it's non-greasy and easily absorbed. The container is like a little night stand ornament as well!"
Although King always looks flawless and radiant in front of the camera, she has skin woes like the rest of us regular women. "We shoot everything in high definition, so bad skin is highly visible, regardless of makeup and the flattering studio lighting. There's nowhere to hide, I'm afraid. You certainly don't feel your best when you are having breakouts, especially when your face is being broadcast!" One of her skin concerns? Clogged pores. "Liquid foundation in humid weather, combined with loose powder means the struggle is real!" King tries to prevent this by thoroughly cleansing her face and going makeup-free wherever possible. She also cites ocean swims and having a great exfoliating effect on her skin. But on a more day-to-day basis, King is glad that her Clé de Peau Beauté routine has had a visible result on the appearance of her pores. "The visible difference is a smoother skin texture as a result of less clogged pores, but not with the compromise of not being properly moisturised. Fine lines are at a minimum and I did find myself having to wear less makeup. Compliments included meeting new people who think I am a whole lot younger than I am — always a win!"
And while King was attracted to the high end packaging of the products that oozed discreet luxury, it was their effectiveness that really won her over. "The textures are super lightweight and malleable without leaving any oily residue. They instantly moisturised and softened my skin. The scents are pleasant without being overpowering — which is great, as strong fragranced cosmetics are not for me. The pump formats of the Emulsions are also easy to travel with." And because constant travel is part of King's life (she is originally from Australia), she was able to switch to the heavier duty La Crème when she visited drier climates.
And while we all know radiant skin comes from within and shouldn't be achieved just with makeup, King was super-impressed with the brand's Radiant Fluid Foundation. "I'm a foundation connoisseur. I've tried them all and this one is a keeper. The crazy thing is that it doesn't look like I'm wearing makeup at all — yet the coverage is full and my skin tone is evened out and looks brighter. I would definitely recommend both La Crème and the Radiant Fluid Foundation to friends for a flawless complexion."
When choosing skincare, I look for... A number of things. A reputable brand, minimal fragrance, certain ingredients and nice packaging helps!
I feel most confident when... I've just been for a swim at the beach, wearing no makeup and I have salt-y hair
The craziest thing I did for beauty is... Try putting actual mud on my face to see if it would make my skin better... I just looked muddy.
To me radiance is about... Confidence
My skin wish is... For it to be smooth, plump and forever youthful.
One thing that always works when I want to look radiant is... Drinking loads of water and massaging the product into the skin.
One skin secret I'm embarrassed to admit is... I have sometimes (only once or twice when I was younger, so don't judge) slept without removing my makeup... Eek!
The skin secret I always share with other people is... If you have a spot, put a drop of toothpaste on it and it will be gone overnight.
If I could go back in time, I would... Wear more SPF 50!
