With the Olympic fever in full swing, we take inspiration from five diverse Brazilian beauties, and find out their beauty tips for always looking so naturally gorgeous
There must be something in the water in Brazil, and no we're not talking about the much-talked about diving pool in Rio 2016. Over the past 15 years, Brazilian beauties of every ilk have dominated the fashion and beauty scene, with their mix of stunning athleticism, natural grace and breathtaking features. Brazil has birthed everyone from the iconic Gisele Bündchen to up-and-coming Ari Westphal. And these ladies have proven to be a mix of beauty, entrepreneurial spirit, and that indefinable 'It' factor. Here are their beauty tips for always looking flawless.
Gisele Bündchen Originally from: Rio Grande do Sol, Brazil Known for: Being one of the highest-earning supermodels of the last decade with huge campaigns with brands like Chanel and her own Ipanema by Gisele Bündchen line of flip-flops. Beauty tip: Fake your freckles. Bündchen is known for her natural, sunkissed beauty and glorious mane. She recently revealed in a Chanel beauty video that she sometimes uses eyebrow pencil over her foundation to re-draw her freckles so they appeared more prominent.
Adriana Lima Originally from: Bahia, Brazil Known for: Her exotic colouring — dark hair, blue eyes and tanned skin — and enviable bone structure. Lima also nails being both beautiful and sexy in equal measures and has lucrative appearances as a Victoria's Secret Angel and as the face of Maybelline cosmetics. Beauty tip: A fan of natural oils, Lima uses argan oil on her face and body to hydrate her skin. She also uses homegrown hair products, as she says she has very dry hair, and that products in Brazil are formulated for this hair type that is common there.
Lais Ribeiro Originally from: Piauí, Brazil Known for: Going from being a teenaged mum to becoming a Victoria's Secret Angel in 2015, after having walked most of the brand's runway shows from 2010 to 2015. Ribeiro has also done campaigns for Ralph Lauren and Tom Ford. Beauty tip: Says Ribeiro "My beauty tip is to sleep. I sleep a lot and drink a lot of coconut water. I use a cucumber mask — that's the only thing I do to my face because I don't like a lot of product; [my face] is already tired of makeup."
Ana Beatriz Barros Originally from: Minas Gerais, Brazil Known for: Her smouldering, green eyes and appearances in Sports Illustrated and Guess campaigns. Barros recently hit the news for donning an exquisite Valentino wedding gown at her recent Mykonos wedding, and for the bevvy of stunning women who were part of her #BrideSquad. They included fellow Brazilian supermodels Alessandra Ambrosio and Isabeli Fontana. Beauty tip:While Barros is not fussy about her hair since it often has to be cut and styled for shoots and campaigns, her face is clearly her fortune. She reveals that she only goes to one dermatologist, Andrea Giobi in São Paolo, and always uses sunscreen before stepping out.
Ari Westphal Originally from:Minas Gerais, Brazil Known for: Her modern, uncategorisable beauty — think olive skin, green eyes and natural, curly hair that bucks the convention. Westphal has made a big splash on the catwalks, walking for Chloé and appearing in its SS16 campaign. Beauty tip: Before donning her signature 'do, Westphal had longer and straighter locks, but a haircut gone wrong left her hair four inches shorter than normal. Unable to find a place to straighten her hair when she first came to Paris in 2015, Westphal wore her curls naturally, and the rest is hair-story. She is also a bit of a beauty rebel, telling Harper's Bazaar that there was no product (beauty or otherwise) that she could not live without.
