The hair treatment that actually lasts
We've all been there and done that when it comes to hair treatments. Sure your hair looks healthier and feels strengthened immediately post-treatment, but how do you maintain the result at home? Did you know that most treatments wash out after two to three days? Our everyday shampoos are designed to remove everything from our hair and scalp — even the beneficial ingredients that are delivered there — making them short-lived to say the least.
L'Oréal Professionnel is always at the cutting-edge of hair technology and have developed an advanced system that works not only in-salon but back home as well. More importantly, they've found the science to make the treatments' reparative effects last. Their laboratories have discovered a new molecular complex called Aptyl 100, that penetrates the hair fibre and rebuilds it from within. Thanks to this new technology, hair can be regenerated and resurfaced. More importantly, post-treatment, the shampoos, conditioners and after-care products are designed to re-activate Aptyl 100. And because Aptyl 100 grips your hair fibres well (your hair and the ingredient have opposite charges), this active ingredient does not wash out.
We headed down to Salon Vim to give the in-salon treatment a try and the first thing we were impressed by was the speed of the process. Don't get us wrong, we like a pampering treat as much as the next person, but sometimes we just don't have the hours to spare at the salon as colouring and perming already takes a large chunk of salon time.
The treatment started with the diagnosis — I was prescribed the Restore range or level two in this three level system. After cleansing my scalp, the hair was primed — with a concentrate applied in a layered technique to enhance absorption. Next, an activator was applied to hair lengths — the areas that really need extra help. The final step was the use of an Ice Iron to literally seal Aptyl 100 into the hair and to reduce the amount of frizz. Before my hair was dried and styled, a leave-in treatment was applied. Despite the relative speed, the treatment was still relaxing, thanks to the professional hands of my therapist Ymond, who checked on all the small details like the water temperature and pressure of his scalp massage. Most reassuringly, at the end of the treatment, my hair did not look brittle as it usually does, but had better elasticity and strength.
Sent back with a suite of products — including a Pro Fiber Re-boost Monodose that is to be applied every four hair washes — I felt that this was a long-term solution worth investing in. Monthly treatments are recommended to maintain the hair's condition — but knowing that there is a well thought-out plan of action in place gives us hair hope.
