This peel is gentle enough to be used every night
We're unabashed fans of Kiehl's Dermatologist Solutions range, especially the acne treatment and lightweight sunscreens. So we were excited to learn that there was a brand new product out in July. Kiehl's Dermatologist Solutions Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate is a gentle, nightly peel that gives you baby soft skin over time. The secret to the product's success? Quinoa husks. Yes the superfood is more than just a healthy lunchtime option. Says Roberta Weiss, the brand's head of innovation, "As the quinoa seeds were being rinsed, it was noticed that the plant's discarded outer husks had begun to bubble. This activity led to the finding that quinoa husks have exemplary skin exfoliation benefits. What was once considered waste, was now a unique scientific discovery."
Unlike painful and expensive chemical peels, this treatment is affordable and blisfully pain-free. Says Dr Adam Geyer, the consulting dermatologist for Kiehl's, "Despite the popularity of chemical peels, they present a number of barriers. While effective, the treatment can cause skin sensitivity including redness, irritation, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, periorbital hyperpigmentation and scarring. The expense of such treatments also presents a challenge for many patients, as a single chemical peel treatment can cost between $800-$1200. In addition, consumers must undergo preparation and precautions to ensure efficacy of an in-office peel and to minimise post-peel sensitivities."
Surely a better, faster and cheaper solution could be dreamt up by the genuises at Kiehl's. The answer? Blending the quinoa husk extract with fruit acids, cactus extract and phytic acid to develop a gentle peel that is well-tolerated (even on sensitive skins) yet highly effective. Just apply two to three drops every night immediately after washing and toning your face — and before any serums and moisturisers. There's no fuss, no rinse-off and hardly any time wasted. Over time, you'll see radiant, softer and more refined-looking skin that absorbs the goodness of serums and moisturisers better.
And if you love cute animation flicks, check out the adventures of a quinoa husk named Jim in the adorable Kiehl's filmlet below:
