They say you're no one till you get your first beauty campaign. We look back at 2016 with some of the coolest beauty ambassadors handpicked by the brands. Here's to greater diversity and fresh, new faces
There were lots of new names signed on to brands in 2016, including singer Ciara for Revlon and actress-model Lily-Rose Depp for Chanel No. 5, but some of those that caught our eye were slightly under-the-radar. Whether they were Cover Girl's great discoveries finds or beauties who are likely to break out in the new year, here are some of the latest and most notable pairings of 2016.
Zac Efron for HUGO Man Following in the footsteps of actors like Theo James, Jared Leto and Ryan Reynolds, Zac Efron embodies 'millenial masculinity' for a new generation of Hugo Boss fragrance users. We're not sure what that phrase entails exactly, but if it means smouldering baby blues, artfully tousled hair and a frightening amount of muscle tone, well Efron has all that in spades. Next up, watch for said muscles to go on lifesaving mode in Baywatch, in May 2017
James Charles and Nura Afia for CoverGirl With a diverse portfolio of ambassadors that include everyone from Sofia Vergara to our #WomanCrushWednesday Janelle Monae, CoverGirl has inspired women of every ethnicity to embrace their skin tones and its cosmetics. But with two new brand signings, the brand has really pushed the boundaries, and brought the world up to speed. First up, 17-year old James Charles is the first male to be a CoverGirl, and yes he's ace at doing his own makeup. Meanwhile Muslim Nura Afia is the first woman to sport a hijabi in their campaign shots and videos. Yes, to diversity!
Bella Hadid for Dior Talk about a face that launched a thousand ships. The beauteous Bella was handpicked to be an ambassador for Dior makeup and perhaps one of the most pristine and symmetrical canvases for Belgian makeup maestro Peter Phillips to work on. Consider us smitten, and very, very jealous.
Staz Lindes for Yves Saint Laurent Beauté The name to know in 2017, Yves Saint Laurent Beauté is very careful about its brand ambassadors and its newest find is a pretty cool cat. The international beauty has rock n'roll running through her veins — she's the daughter of Dire Straits' guitarist Hal Lindes and is a member of riot girl brand The Paranoyds herself. Born in London, but currently residing in Los Angeles, Lindes definitely has a Parisian vibe going on. Think pillowy lips, wispy bangs and an insoucient charm.
