Create a bespoke nail polish
Want the perfect greige, the sunniest yellow or the most elegant off-white nail polish? If like us, you're particular about your lacquer shades and prefer to eschew nail art, finding the right hue for your digits and your skin tone can be a challenge. And good luck if your favourite, go-to nude or perfect scarlet gets discontinued by your nail polish brand of choice. A new pop-up, Lacquer Bar by Nail Deck, allows you to customise your colour — base it off anything from pair of shoes you own to a lustworthy shade you spotted on Rihanna — and take it home immediately. The three-month long pop-up bar is located in VivoCity within the premises of esBoudoir, a nail salon.
To create your customised nail polish, bring in samples or ideas of the colour you want, and watch your exact hue be hand mixed on the spot and packaged — the process takes just 10 minutes. The finishing touch? You can name your nail polish shade. Trump Orange or Nasty Woman anyone? Pick from a 5ml or 10ml bottle. If you're creating a failsafe shade you want to bring with your for regular manicures, we would strongly advise getting a bigger bottle. But if you switch nail polish faster than you swipe Tinder profiles, opt for smaller bottles in a greater variety of shades. No idea what colour will work for you? A one-on-one consultation with a colourist will help you along. Says Lacquer Bar, "After picking your shade, a spectrometer, a device that analyses colour, picks out the desired colour from the item or photo provided. An in-house algorithm converts the digital colour to a formula. From there, chemistry laboratory equipment will accurately blend the colours which will then be hand-poured into five or 10ml bottles."
The process doesn't end there. The Lacquer Bar will produce complimentary sample amounts first to try on under both white and warm lights so you get the exact colour you're after. Your bespoke polish will then be adjusted and will only be bottled when you are completely satisfied. esBoudoir founder Serene Teh says, "Having been in the nail business for 20 years, I have seen countless trends come and go but Lacquer Bar is a truly unique idea that I had never encountered. We are very happy to be part of something so innovative and exciting." Currently crème is the only finish available — with other finishes like shimmer and glitter are in the works. Can't make it down to get your polish mixed at the Lacquer Bar? Its parent company Nail Deck has a website and an app where you can digitally create your dream polish, order it and have it shipped worldwide. We think they make the best gifts for BFFs too.
From $11-$16. esBoudoir is at #02-227 VivoCity. From now till 31 December
