How this heritage French skincare brand is bringing back the art of touch
The original Méthode
The French have brought us many great things. Think Coco Chanel, champagne and of course, French skincare. But while brands like Clarins are known and loved in Singapore, Méthode Jeanne Piaubert is a brand that has not really made its way to our shores, till now. TaraBliss Spa now retails the brand, and much to the excitement of beauty lovers everywhere, have also brought in one of the brand's star treatments. Previously, one would have had to go all the way to their Méthode Jeanne Piaubert Institute in Paris to experience it.
Founded in 1928, the Institute was one of the first to emply electro-therapy and was a pioneer in lymphatic drainage massage. Imagine my delight when Buro 24/7 Singapore was offered the chance to experience the Méthode Jeanne Piaubert SlimFace Lymphatic Drainage treatment at the skilled hands of the brand's international training manager Dominique Vargas, who has 17 years of experience with the brand. Unlike the more aggressive facial massages you might experience in many spas, the Méthode Jeanne Piaubert massage technique is extremely gentle, and incredibly precise, but wields immediate results on the skin.
Employing a detailed pressure point massage, the idea behind lymphatic drainage is to detoxify the skin from deep within while 'waking' sluggish skin cells. This treatment is also fully customised according to your skin needs and and includes the use of professional-use only products including a walnut shell exfoliating scrub. Vargas started by cleansing and diagnosing my dry and dull skin, before employing the patented Méthode Jeanne Piaubert technique that thoroughly drains the lymph nodes on your face, décolleté and neck. After opening the lymph nodes, she is sure to close them as well. The relaxing massage was light, but so calming, we were lulled into a deeply relaxed state. Seeing that we had dark eye circles and tired eyes, Vargas worked extra hard on these areas, and it showed. I emerged from the facial with even, glowing skin and a sharper, more defined jawline. This literally gets rid of dull skin and a bloat-ey visage. After an extended period of my skin feeling a little patchy and lacklustre, I finally felt confident barefaced.
But a facial is not just about the technique but the products as well, which is why TaraBliss is offering a curated selection of the brand's key products — some of which like the Radical Firmness Mask and the Toner were used during my treatment. Backed by years of skin science and boasting fabulous textures, star products like the revolutionary L'Hydro Active Biphase Serum — which comes in an innovative and lightweight spray form — proved so popular here, it was sold out when we visited the Spa. The original Institute is also known for its effective body slimming and anti-cellulite treatments, and if we're lucky enough, TaraBliss Spa might be introducing those in time to come. If not, we'll always have Paris.
The exclusive facial is $288 for 90 minutes. At TaraBliss Spa, Level 5, 452 North Bridge Rd, 6336-9274
