Five best places in Singapore for a blowout
In our opinion, nothing makes you look better than a masterful blowout. There's nothing quite like getting your hair done by a professional to transform it from drab to fab. The secret to a great blowdry? It's all in the (wrist) action of your stylist... but high-quality products that are smoothening but weightless, ensure your style lasts longer and doesn't go limp or greasy in the humidity. Here are our picks for the best blowouts in town.
Prep Luxe (above)
#01-62 Capitol Piazza, 6384-1406
Located in the newly rebuilt Capitol Piazza, this is a more luxe version of their original Mandarin Gallery outlet, that offers a full suite of services. Still the salon specialises in blowouts, offering a wide variety from the Sacha Juan Blowout, $55, for stressed locks to the luxurious Geisha Blowout, $70, which uses Shu Uemura Art of Hair products. For the F1 season, the salon offers a Speed Style menu, $50. Pick from 16 hairstyles on the menu (from waterfall braids to dressed-up chignons) and be in and out in under 30 minutes. But do note that no washing is included.
Must try: The Purifying Evian Blowout, $60 which uses Evian water to remove any residue and impurities from the scalp and tresses. Hair looks extra-bouncy yet feels weightless... perfect for washing away the stresses of the day.
#02-12 Ngee Ann City, 6738-8006
We liken this to the Rolls Royce of blowouts. The reason? The swank surroundings, impeccable service and the speed and skill in which blowouts are done. The hair wash and massage is a revelation. It's so shiok (pampering) that you're might even fall asleep feeling utterly blissed-out. We like how the stylists here don't instantly reach for the flat iron — something we can easily replicate at home — but instead use old-school hair rollers and a hairdryer with considerable skill to give hair volume and a va-va-voom finish. Leave feeling both pampered and glamorous. But book early to ensure an appointment during popular periods.
Must try: The signature Cleanse & Finish, from $58. Once you've tried this super-fast service, you'll definitely be back for special occasions or just for a treat yourself day.
Blow + Bar In the City
#05-18 One Raffles Place Shopping Podium, 6438-7005
Catering to the working crowd, this is conveniently located in the heart of Raffles Place. Drop by at lunch or straight after work to get instantly prettified. We like the party vibe here: have a drink as you get ready, chill out with your girlfriends and if time permits try add-ons like braids and their makeup service to upgrade your look.
Must try: The award-winning Moroccan Ultimate Blowout, $75, that offers a double-cleanse and a moroccanoil hot towel treatment. Perfect for damaged hair, this ultra-conditioning treatment is like an instant resuscitation.
Tangs Level 2, 6734-9181
Tucked away in Level 2 of Tangs Plaza, blink and you'll miss this mini salon that sits smack in the middle of designer clothing and The Providore cafe. Although primarily a scalp specialist — the brand uses Nioxin products for deep cleansing treatments — blowouts are available. The major plus? You don't have to even stop your shopping. Great for a midday respite — rest your tired feet and get pampered — or if you need styling on a whim.
Must try: Wash & Blow, from $20-$40 (depending on your hair length). Thanks to the products stocked, expect only high-quality brands like Nioxin and Wella System Professional to be used. Plus all shampoos and conditioners are tailored to your hair type and condition.
#05-05 Ngee Ann City, 6732-9388
Another great option in Orchard Road, this is nestled on the fifth floor of Ngee Ann City. What we like is that all the stylists here have at least ten years of experience under their belt - so there are newbies here. If you have the luxury of time, we highly recommend the Amplified Keratin Treatment, from $325. A true game-changer, this offers smoothening and strengthening of the hair for up to three months — results are transformative, instantaneous and long-lasting.
Must try: The Cleanse & Blow, from $40. Add on $20 to have it done in your own private room, where you can be coiffed to perfection in absolute privacy. Want a style worthy of a high fashion editorial? Ask for associate director Sam Chok, who has styled for top Singapore publications like Elle and Female.
