#FirstClassFriday: Louis Vuitton Fragrance Trunk
You've heard of hatboxes and Louis Vuitton's remarkable trunks that can store and transport anything from your boots, shoes and hats to an entire wardrobe, but a trunk just for your precious fragrances must be the ultimate indulgence. In conjunction with the launch of its seven exclusive fragrances in Fall 2016, the brand introduced its fragrance trunk, designed for the modern connoisseur. Available by special order at its stores, each trunk is exquisitely made — Vuitton after all does have some practice, as they started way back in 1858 — and covered in the brand's signature monogram canvas.
There's a certain charm and contrast between old and new when each piece is opened to reveal the three, 100ml-sized fragrances nestled snugly in specially-carved out holders that keep these precious liquids in place. The making of fragrance and cosmetic trunks for travel are a heritage craft that belongs to a bygone era of glamour and privilege — one can't help think of movie stars and aristocracy toting these about. Meanwhile the sleek, ultra-modern fragrance bottles, designed by Marc Newson, are so clean and simplified, you can barely spy the atomiser hidden in the juice. But it's this brilliant juxtaposition and the elevation of the perfuming experience that makes this such a covetable object. Plus the perfumes inside smell pretty, darn good.
$7,450. Available for order at selected Louis Vuitton boutiques
